Prospecting for Gold With the New 49ers

Do you want to try your luck at prospecting?

Here is an article that will give you some ideas. - Prospecting for Gold With the New 49ers - Pacific Standard

Panning is easy to learn, it is finding the place where the gold is that needs a large amount of study.

You can't just wade into a creek or river and expect to start finding gold in your pan. If yo do you are very, very lucky.

Another thing - if you pan 4 or 5 pans of gravel and find nada you may as well knock off. This is assuming your panning skills are good.

If you are new at the hobby I suggest taking a weekend to learn to pan. There are plenty of people and organizations offering them and the cost, if any, is very low. You will learn how to do it with real gold so when you hit the trail on your own you will know it is not your poor gold panning skill that is resulting in the empty pan.

That will tell you you are panning the wrong spot and it is time to dump your dirt and move along.

As always, the best gravel is upstream...
