Prospecting and Exploring for Gold Panning Sites

Prospector and burro, western Colorado, USA ci...Image via WikipediaProspecting and exploration that is a search for precious metals deposits is not a simple process because big deposits were discovered a long time ago. There are several places with important content of precious metals waiting for skill prospectors. The large mining companies of the world are focused in big deposits and the small deposits are attractive for small miners and perhaps their interest for gold is the most valuable tool for exploring new deposits.

Gold is a very widely disseminated throughout nature and may be found in any geological formation from the oldest rocks to the deposits that are still being formed, but in common with other metals, it is more likely to be found in the oldest rocks and in those places where the earth crust has undergone the most extensive changes such as elevations, folding, tilting, faults, fissuring and also volcanic action, with resulting changes in the composition and texture of the rocks.

The current technology is very important in development new project and exploration of new deposits begins with the selection of a target area. This is followed by reconnaissance exploration in which satellite remote sensing; geological mapping and seismic techniques are used. In turn, this is followed by detailed geophysical studies and later, a detailed drilling, sampling, assaying and mineralogical study. Gold deposits are sought with many techniques, but they are based on geochemical studies. Commonly more than one method is employed. With these methods, the geologist is looking for anomalies. Perhaps, the most important techniques are photogeology and seismic techniques.

Gold Panning Store in BC

A photo take in Kelowna, B.C.
Image via Wikipedia
I am not sure what is going to happen with this. There was an icon on my toolbar that I pressed and it took me here.

I was looking at this guys store in Kelowna, BC. He looks to have a lot of stuff you would have to order from the USA or "States" as they say.

Here is the link I think. I am not to pleased with this so will probably get rid of the icon when I am done with this entry. I think I get the idea of the icon - it makes a blog about the page you are on? I was looking at a gold panning store in BC.

Some Prospecting Definitions

Placer miningImage by Oregon State University Archives via Flickr I don't have much to say today except gold has gone up and looking at my charts now it's 1407.75.

What I am going to do today is put up a few definitions that prospectors and placer miners use when they're talking about their claims.

Flour gold. This is also called Gold dust.    It is defined as gold that is so fine that it looks and feels like flour or dust.

Hard rock mine. This isn't something you will be too concerned about during your recreational gold panning but I thought we might as well throw it in anyway. A hard rock mine is a tunnel was dug into solid rock for the purpose of finding minerals particularly gold and silver.

Placer mining. This is the type of mining you will be doing with your pan hopefully finding a few nuggets which we will define later. It involves mining gold that's been washed away from its source and deposited in sandbars and small cracks  in bedrock. Generally this involves rivers and streams but if you can find an old riverbed that is now dry and figure out where it used to run it is a very good place to find gold.

Your tools will be not in any particular order a rocker box, dredge, shaker table,  sluice box, drywasher, and of course your trusty gold pan. You will also need some water. However you don't necessarily need it at the place where you're doing your work. You can sort your material and carry it home and do your final cleanup and processing in your garage  or garden. This is the way most people do it because you can classify air or at the  site and do the sitdown work-at-home.

By the way - prospectors have a word for this classified material, you will hear them refer to "cons". This is short for concentrates.

You can learn more about recreational gold panning HERE.   hope you found this useful and watch this space please.

Where Did the Gold Go?

The Quesnel gold pan.Image via WikipediaI had a really good entry all typed out  Ready to go and pressed transfer and it just disappeared.

It was all about gold and how it mysteriously disappears. You know what I mean you find a really good Creek. You do a little sampling and it come out good. Now your gold pan only holds a couple of shovelful's so if you can get that much gold in two shovelful's you better go back  and get your 5 gallon pails and fill them up.

Up in the morning and down to the creek, out with a shovel and fill the pails.  You classify it to a quarter  of an inch.

Luke where did you come from? You snuck in there all by yourself did you? You say you're going to pan this batch out? Great, get  at it.

One half an hour later...  how's it going with you Luke? You're ready for the final cleanup! Let's see what you've got. Lotta black sand in there that's a good sign I think. Give her the final swirl when can let's see what happens.

Excellent! As I was shoveling I was thinking this was cannot be another one of those where did the gold go? Expeditions. I'm sure glad you came along, you probably bought lock with you. Let's get that gold into the bottle. We can probably do a couple more  buckets before we leave. The water will be high next week and we will be able comeback to this exact spot so let's get as much done as we can now.

The Hobby of Gold Panning

Crystaline GoldImage via WikipediaGold panning as a hobby.

With the price of gold over $1350 a lot more people have become interested in panning for gold as a hobby. I was in a hobby store that sort of specializes in goldpanning equipment a few days ago and they had actually run out of a certain brand of goldpan. The owner was saying he sells seven or eight a day sometimes where that used to be a month sales.
It looks like the time has come for gold panning. he was telling me that what used to be a hobby for some people is now actually earning them 40 or 50% of their income because of the high unemployment. At this moment the gold is sitting at  $1389. That's more than $50 a gram. In a good stream a person who knows where to look and easily make two or 3 g a day. That's tax-free to!
Eastern Nevada, Idaho, and Montana are all known gold states. Of course California has gold to and Eastern Oregon is exactly empty especially around the Baker city/Sumter area. Washington state has gold but there's never been a really big run. And then of course British Columbia to the north of Washington is well known as a source of gold.
Another way to make some money from the new interest in gold panning is to sell  gold panning equipment. Like the store owner that I was referring to earlier. If you  do a search for gold panning you can see there's a lot of people selling it but there's always room for one more as they say. I noticed quite a few of the people selling have affiliate links and are picking up some extra cash by people clicking and buying.
It is a known fact that the people made the most money during all the famous North American gold rushes where the merchants selling stuff whether it was food, liquor, mules and horses, and of course services. He should give some consideration to this before you go thrashing around in a creek looking for the elusive nugget.
Of course you could just open up an online trading account and bet on gold going up or down it doesn't matter you can bet either way. A lot of people use their Forex accounts for this because the Forex trading companies have started to include silver and gold in their offerings. These are highly geared accounts so little bet has the potential to make you a lot of money.
So you can see there's several ways to get in on the new 21st century gold rush. The thing you have to do is decide how you're going to participate and then take action and hopefully make some money on the hobby of gold panning.

Basic Gold Mining Equipment for Recreational Prospectors

Gold panning at Bonanza CreekImage via WikipediaGold panning and mining is a great hobby, and the good news is that the basic gold mining equipment for the weekend recreational prospector is not going to cost you a fortune.

So if you are hankering to get out there and find some gold for yourself, you can round up your basic gold getting equipment quickly and cheaply.

Online stores can show you the basic gold panning tools you need, and save yourself the trouble of finding a local store that actually stocks such things. Even in gold country, it can take a bit of research to find a store.

So, what are we looking at for the basics?

Obviously, a gold pan. Can't get more basic than that. Gold pans come in different shapes and sizes and features. A real simple little black plastic pan can be had for about three and a half to five dollars, depending on the size. The larger green or blue plastic pans can range from maybe eight dollars up to over twenty, depending on the kind of built in features the pan has - and its size.

One feature that is a must for any good pan is that it have riffles formed into one or more sides of the pan. These make it much easier to retain the gold as the gravel is passed over the lip of the pan in the panning process to reduce the amount of material in the pan.

I recommend the space age durable plastic gold pans over metal pans.
Plastic is lighter, doesn't rust, and is much easier and faster to learn on than the metal pans.

You may already have some of the equipment you need. A sturdy bucket,
like a five gallon one. A digging tool, like a garden shovel or garden trowel. Some people like the small folding GI shovels.

A nifty little gold panning tool is the plastic snuffer bottle. For maybe two or three dollars, you have a little suction device to slurp up the gold that appears in the bottom of your pan.

You might want to use a gold screen, called a classifier, to reduce the size and amount of gravel you will be panning. Placed over the top of your big bucket, you screen out the larger rocks, so your panning material is more concentrated. Your panning is now more efficient and you will lose less gold out of your pan.

Finally, a gold vial in nice for showing off your gold. These can be glass or plastic. With a little water in them, your gold will have a pretty bright color, and you can tantalize your friends with your findings.

One last thing. If you are new to gold panning, it's always a good idea to get good information to help you become more knowledgeable. There are a number of good prospecting books out there that offer great tips and guidelines to make your outdoor gold adventure more fun - and productive.

And that about sums up your basic gold mining equipment needs.

Short-term trading strategies

Logo for FXImage via WikipediaSwing traders-if you are interested in swing trading, any sort of trade is going to be based on a long-term trading strategy. This is where you are going to be using trading software, or even indicators like price levels, Bollinger bands, stochastic indicators etc. You may also calculate the momentum over a longer term period, before you make any sort of decision to buy or sell.

Short-term trading strategies — A day trader normally uses beneficial and profitable short trading strategies. He also looks at instantaneous signals for profitable trading. The idea is to get into the market as quickly as possible, when the currency is riding a strong wave. Sell that particular currency, make a quick profit and buy a weaker currency. This trading strategy and plan is going to implement the use of the right momentum. An experienced FX trader is also going to recognize profitable price patterns, based on his experience. A number of traders look at short-term trading frames, and do their business transactions on retracements, price levels and Fibonacci.

Okay Here's the Gold Panning Book Excerpt for You

Alaskan Gold in panImage via Wikipedia
Gold Gold Gold Gold!

Bright and yellow card and cold
Molton, grave, hammered, rolled,
heavy to get, and light to hold
stolen, borrowed, squandered, doled.
Some lines from a poem from somewhere. They kind of ring true.
This is true today.
An interesting fact the yield of precious metal in California since 1847 up to 1888 amounted to 256,000,000 pounds.
Every prospector should understand elementary geology so far as general knowledge of the history of the structure of the Earth's crust and of the several actions that have taken place in the past, or are now in operation, modifying its conditions.
He may go a few steps further and learn to classify the various formations into systems, groups, and series.
It is advisable to learn something about the occurrence and appearance of the valuable minerals and the formations in which they are found. I recommend Cox and Rashid's "Mines and Minerals" which deals largely with the subject and is therefore particularly valuable.
If you're all alone don't forget your gold pan and shovel. I also advised you to visit this website. HERE

A Couple of Real Interesting Books for You to Read

Through another website I found a couple of really good books about gold. I have downloaded them and will be posting excerpts here from time to time.

The only problem I'm having is transferring them to my iPhone so I can read them. It seems like something is really messed up my computers. They used to be nothing to this and now it's become a problem.

I'm working on it anyway and as soon as I get it going I'll let you know.
