This link: http://searching-for-gold.blogspot.ca/2013/10/professor-hausels-guide-to-gold.html has more information than you will need.

If you are like me and consider recreational gold panning as a hobby I advise you to go and take a look. If you pick up one good idea you will find more good panning tips than any other 10 sites. You can never tell, maybe you will turn a small profit this season.

There is not much I can add to this but I am going to let Zemanta give it a try.

Gold Gold Gold Gold!

Bright and yellow card and cold
Molton, grave, hammered, rolled,
heavy to get, and light to hold
stolen, borrowed, squandered, doled.
Some lines from a poem from somewhere. They kind of ring true.
This is true today.
An interesting fact the yield of precious metal in California since 1847 up to 1888 amounted to 256,000,000 pounds.
Every prospector should understand elementary geology so far as general knowledge of the history of the structure of the Earth's crust and of the several actions that have taken place in the past, or are now in operation, modifying its conditions.
He may go a few steps further and learn to classify the various formations into systems, groups, and series.
It is advisable to learn something about the occurrence and appearance of the valuable minerals and the formations in which they are found. I recommend Cox and Rashid's "Mines and Minerals" which deals largely with the subject and is therefore particularly valuable.
If you're all alone don't forget your gold pan and shovel. I also advised you to visit this website. HERE
